During COVID our Melrose Community meetings got pretty popular and people liked how we were having workshops, organizing, making a name for our community at City Hall and so people from other communities and other NCPCs started asking if they could join Melrose monthly meetings.
This gave light to the ideas that once one of us figures something out we should share it with every other NCPC so everyone can learn the best ways to do things instead of everyone trying to build everything from scratch each time. We thought of a group called "East Oakland Neighbors" or EON, where the goal was for people from each NCPC to join one meta meeting where we could feature cool tricks and solutions from each community.
EON would required coming up with a bigger Oakland map that shows all communities so people could figure out which neighborhood and NCPC they were part of and also to easily join other NCPC meetings. The fire colors here indicate voting districts.
I started on this mapping project and it was really interesting. My ankle became a big problem so I had to pull back on extracurricular projects to focus on surgery and rehab.
The blue and purples here indicate where the consortium of folks discussed declaring it to be "East Oakland" vs. Oakland, Oakland. If you're from the Town you'll understand the distinction :)
