Metropolitan Intelligence is a platform that hosts environmental hazard data in layers users can subscribe to in order to have known health risks visually represented on live navigation maps so they are more informed and better choose routes to work and school, places to live, and places to go to school.
We focused on a couple communities in Deep East Oakland because people were receptive to the idea of being able to see hidden hazards and potentially take steps to avoid exposure to anything that might put them, or the folks they care about, at any type of health risks.
The first set of data were around healthy homes topics like lead poisoning hazards found in lead paint, and lead dust coming from freeways, old auto industry in Oakland, and Bay Area airports.
Folks wanted to see many more types of data to augment the topic of hazardous lead.
