We asked kids at a middle school in Oakland the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How for imagining a future where everything is connected and behaves in helpful ways. They came up with some cool ideas. Then we switched to looking at STEAM IoT kits to determine which types of sensors they would need to connect their creations to the real world.
A Smart Cities Challenge friend and I did a Vision Architecture workshop with some kids from an Oakland middle school for their summer science credits. We gave them a high level understanding of Internet of Things then asked them what they imagined building if they could connect all sorts of devices together in Oakland. What would they imagine? These are Bravo workshop outputs, so focusing on the Future State.
We wanted to see what the kids would think of if we presented them with ideas we were discussing with global city planners.
Some kids who generally never spoke in class ended up being the leaders of these smaller groups that broke off to figure out how to actually build what they just imagined. It was an amazing day and I'd love to do more workshops like these with youth of all ages.
