I prefer to put a schedule together for a 3, 6, or 9 month timeframe, depending on the scale of the project, and get on SMEs (subject matter experts) schedule as soon as possible so time is blocked out on their calendars and they join teams on a manageable timeline as they get used to the way things are changing, and how they are contributing to this change over time.
